Background
Seed Product Detail Pages play a key role in helping users make decisions on agricultural products. However, the existing pages are dense and hard to scan with key information in collapsible sections.
The challenge was to create a scalable, user-friendly pattern that could be used globally, across multiple markets, while accommodating regional needs and improving the user experience.
Design Goals
Based on research, I established the following goals for the new pattern:
Enable fast scanning and immediate access to relevant content
Reduce user effort and number of clicks
Support printability without compromising web design
Ensure key data (ratings, product keys, agronomic fit) are always visible
Design with modularity for localization and future scaling
Design Solutions
1. Reduced Click Depth
Remove closed accordion sections in favor of always visible data in one section.
2. Simplified Content Layout
Use inline, bento-style modules to display the insights.
Prioritize content order based on user feedback
3. Visual Scanning Aids
Attach the legends to each data set for easier access and quick understanding.
4. Print Optimization
Add a “Print” functionality that generates a simplified PDF-style version of just the product details, rather than the entire page contents.
Setback: Project On Hold
While the redesigned Seed Product Detail section was met with overwhelming positive feedback from stakeholders, the project was unfortunately placed on hold due to budget constraints. As a result, further implementation and scaling of the new template are currently paused.
This setback, however, does not diminish the value of the insights gained during the design process, and the improvements made in user experience are seen as a strong foundation for future work, should the project be revisited.
Conclusion
Although the project was temporarily suspended due to funding issues, the redesigned Seed Product Details template achieved its goal of improving user experience by making information easier to scan and more accessible. The user-friendly design, emphasis on scannability, and modular approach laid the groundwork for what could eventually become a valuable asset for users across multiple markets.
